GUIDELINES for the BMFA 3rd Annual Members Show 2020 PDF – click to download

The Brownsville Museum of Fine Art is encouraging its members to submit artwork for the 3rd Annual Members Art Show. All artwork must have been created within the last 5 years and not have been previously exhibited at BMFA. We encourage all the artists to have their art work for sale.

ELIGIBILITY:

All artists 18 and older with a current museum membership are welcome to submit their artwork.

ENTRY FEE:

Entry fee is twenty-five dollars ($25), all members may exhibit up to three pieces of their artwork for a single fee. At least one artwork must be original and for sale, (However copy artwork will not be for sale). A ten dollars ($10) fee will be charge for any additional artwork participating, not to exceed 6 art pieces in total.

DEADLINES:

Submissions are required by museum closing time at 4 p.m. (Central Time), August 14, 2020.

SUBMISSION PROCESS:

Please submit your entry form or e-mail to irmamarindemills@millsmaritime.com  no later than August 14, 2020 by Midnight (Central Time).

CATEGORIES:

  • Painting (oil and acrylic)
  • Oil and Soft Pastel
  • Drawing (pen & ink, pencil, colored pencil, and charcoal)
  • Mix Media (including collage)
  • Water Media (watercolor, gouache, India ink)
  • Repousse (tin, aluminum, copper)
  • Printmaking (including etching, monographs, aquatint)
  • Sculpture
  • Photography
  • Digital art

CONDITIONS AND RULES:

All Hanging Art must be equipped with D-rings or wire (in good condition), ready for hanging. Sawtooth hangers will NOT be accepted under any conditions.

Artists may not substitute another work after entry form has been submitted, The BMFA reserves the right to not display works if they are not presented in the format specified or if the physical work vastly differs from the submitted image.  By submitting your entry, the artist grants permission to the BMFA to publish their images for BMFA publicity purposes for the Members Art Show in both printed and electronic forms (All credits to artist will be included). All artwork must be on display for the duration of the show.

DELIVERY AND PICK-UP:

Artists are responsible for transportation of their artwork.  Artists hand-delivering work must do so between August 31-September 1- 2, 2020.  Pick up of artwork is between October 12-14, 2020; during regular museum hours.

DIMENSIONS:

Hanging Art [Canvas, Mix Media and Repousse] – No Larger Than 36” x 48” / Weight limit: 15 lbs. (If artwork is larger than maximum dimensions, including diptychs and triptychs, the entry fee will be for multiple paintings).

Sculptures – No Larger Than 4 ft x 5 ft / Weight limit: 150 lbs.  Artist are required to do installation and de-installation of own sculpture.

ART FOR SALE:

The BMFA will receive 30% of the selling price of any art sold as a direct result of this exhibition. Only original artwork will be for sale.

  • August 31st/ Sept 1st-2nd  – Artwork to be Delivered during Museum working hours

  • September 9th – Opening Reception at 6 p.m.

  • October 9th –  Last day of exhibit

  • October 12th -14th –  Art pick-up during museum working hours
