Before the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art, there was the Brownsville Art League. What began as a small art league of 8 women artists in 1935 eventually grew into a larger organization. After hosting art lessons, visiting artist workshops, and exhibitions out of the Neale House and the Brownsville Art League Museum for many years, the League changed its name in 2002 and founded the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art. This exhibition showcases the efforts and achievements of the founding members through their own work in our Permanent Collection. This exhibit includes portraits, landscapes, and studies of familiar Rio Grande Valley scenes and plant life and other works done in a variety of media. The founding members’ passion for enriching and collaborating with the community through art continues through the mission of the Museum today.
